Today, it is chronologically the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year since 1987 and there are other international tournaments that have followed suite such as the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon.

How the US Open Works?

The tournament is also inclusive to players ranging from junior to senior ages and those who are wheelchair-bound. The United States Tennis Association (USTA) which is a non-profit organisation run by US Open chairman Katrina Adams owns and operates the US Open.

Funding and development for tennis in the United States comes from proceeds of ticket sales, television contracts and sponsorships.

The scoring system for the US Open employs a standard 7-point tiebreaker for singles matches. While the US Open engages in this scoring system, it differs for the other three Grand Slam events.

A special scoring method is utilised when a match reaches a tie in the final set (the third for women and fifth for men).

For the Australian Open, an extended tiebreaker to 10 points is played whereas for the French Open, until a player takes a two-game lead, the decisive set will continue. At Wimbledon, a tiebreaker is only played if the game score reaches to 12-12. With regards to the US Open, these events use tiebreakers to determine the other sets.
