What is the Late Late Show?
The Late Late Show with James Corden, also referred to as simply Late Late, is an American late-night talk show hosted by James Corden on CBS.
It is the fourth rendition of The Late Late Show, which has been running since 1995, and hosted by Corden since 2015. The show is aired every day in the United States Monday to Friday and is filmed in front of a live audience from Monday to Thursday.
The show is distinct from many other American talk shows, which typically feature multiple guests individually, as Corden brings on multiple guests at the same time, akin to British talk shows such as the Graham Norton show.
This makes the show more of a conversational style, as opposed to the interview type shows like Jimmy Fallon or Conan O’Brien. Corden made his debut on March 23, 2015, with guests Mila Kunis and Tom Hanks.
The Late Late Show Format
As mentioned before, the format of the show is somewhat casual. The featured guests do not walk on stage from behind the stage itself, but appear from the back of the studio, and walk through the audience rows to get to the stage.
Whereas traditional American talk shows feature the host to the right of the guests, Corden reverses this to the British type and sits to the right. Furthermore, he doesn’t sit behind a desk, but in a swivel chair. Corden’s show also has a house band, unlike previous iterations of The Late Late Show.
The band is nicknamed “Karen”, and is fronted by Reggie Watts, who is also the announcer of the show.
Late Late Show Episodes
Episodes typically consist primarily of Corden conversing with the guests, which are primarily celebrities, so their recent works, endeavors or anything pertinent to their fame.
However, the show also features skits, which are mixed in with the conversations to ensure variety. The content of these skits ranges from political satire, musical performances and sketch comedy. T

For Carpool Karaoke, Corden invites famous musical guests into a car, to sing along together with him while he drives on a planned route, usually in Los Angeles. However, Carpool Karaoke has also taken place outside of LA and even the United States itself, such as in London with Adele and Newcastle with Paul McCartney.
These skits are extremely popular and are regularly posted to Youtube, where they get tens of millions of views. As of the time of writing, the video with Adele has over 200 million views.

Other skits on the show include Drop the Mic, where Corden and his guest ‘compete’ in a scripted rap battle, which is played entirely for comic effect.
Guests for this segment have included Rebel Wilson, Cara Delevingne and Riz Ahmed, amongst others.
The entire show itself, beyond the individual skits, is extremely popular and is broadcasted internationally in many countries around the world, making it one of the most popular talk shows in the world, with many praising Corden’s character and comic abilities.
