If you’ve been watching Netflix in New Zealand then you’ll probably be missing out on tons and tons of content that is actually only available on the USA version of Netflix. I’ll show you how to bypass the geo restriction and watch Netflix USA in New Zealand within minutes.
Netflix is great but like movie release dates and TV licensing they can’t show the same content in every country they offer their services. This is a real pain especially for consumers in New Zealand as we miss out on the good shows!
Thankfully there is a simple way to unlock this content without making any changes to your Netflix subscription. Believe it or not, Netflix simply looks at the IP address or the DNS address of your connection to determine which content you can or can’t see.
Fortunately for us this allows us to bypass the filter and unlock all the Netflix content within New Zealand. However Netflix are catching on and blocking most VPN providers and companies that offer geo unblocking services.
But I have found a company that is always working.
It’s a game of cat and mouse with VPN providers ultimately winning as Netflix can only block so many providers before those providers simply change their IP addresses.
How To Watch Netflix USA In New Zealand
The first step is to simply have a standard NZ Netflix account.
The next step is to decide how you plan on watching Netflix USA. If you’re using a smart TV or android box, Mibox or something similar then you need to purchase a VPN service. If you’re using a Roku you need to use Smart DNS or Router level VPN.
I’ve used many different VPN providers over the last few years and the best VPN for watching Netflix USA is Pure VPN.
Once you signup with Pure VPN you simply download their VPN app to your device. If you’re using a smart TV or android box like me, go to the app store and download their free app.

Alternatively if you’re using something like the Fire TV you can sideload their app into your device. If you’re using the router level service you’ll need to follow the instructions on their knowledge-base to setup your router.
If you’re on a laptop, mac, desktop or tablet download the app they provide.
Next login to your account using the details you received via email and then connect to a USA server.
You’ll see the app start to connect to Netflix US.
Now reload your Netflix via the app or using the web browser (depending on your situation) and you will now have the USA content. You may need to restart your TV if you’re using the PureVPN Smart TV App.
Sometimes Netflix will see you are using the VPN or block the content. Unfortunately this is an ongoing issue and all VPN providers who will resolve the problem within a few hours. Like I said earlier, cat and mouse game but if you really want Netflix USA it’s pretty much your only option, or a green card 😉
