You’ve come to the right article. I’m a kiwi too and have been making money online for over ten years allowing me a life of freedom.
I’m sure you want something similar, that’s why you’re here. Stop working 40 hours per week for someone else and start living.
Making money online isn’t difficult, they are many ways to make money online.
But most people, myself included, over complicate the process when they are starting out, thinking you can make money online fast.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but those push button scams that keep filling your Facebook newsfeed simply do not work. Like any business, hard work and determination is needed to make money online.
So, what is the best money making online business?
How To Make Money Online
These are the three best hustles, you can start within a few hours:
- Affiliate Marketing
- Social Media Marketing
Method #1: Dropshipping
I’m sure you’ve heard this term from the media, it appears Stuff and NZHerald thrive on success stories in this industry.
Dropshipping means selling other peoples products, then having that other person fulfil the order and taking your cut from the wholesale cost vs your customers cost.
The reason this method is so appealing is the limited startup costs and minimal risk should items not sell. You can simply move on to another product range.
To get started you’ll need:
- An eCommerce website that accepts credit cards
- A good product or product range to sell
- A way of getting sales, usually an Advertisement platform.
Step 1: Start A Shopify Store
The best way to start making money with your online store is to start a Shopify store as you can get a store up and running within hours.
They offer payment facilities too, allowing you to accept credit card payments via your website, which are deposited to your bank account within a few days.
Shopify costs $29 (USD) per month and you can get a wide variety of free themes to customise your store look and feel.
Step 2: Find Winning Products
Gone are the days you need to buy products and hope they sell. Platforms out there help you find the best selling products.
One of those is called Sell The Trend that crawls the web for trending products and compiles them into an easy to use web database.
These products are usually being promoted by other people like you on sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Google.
You can then use platforms such as Aliexpress to find a supplier who’ll dropship your product to customers all over the world.
You can also contact New Zealand companies and ask if they’d be interested in working with a dropshipper. SaleHoo is a good directory of NZ companies that offer such a service ($67 USD).
Step 3: Drive Traffic
You’ve got a great looking store, a winning product but still no sales.
That’s because you need to drive traffic to your store.
There’s many different ways of doing this. If you’ve got a limited budget then you can use free social media techniques such as commenting on pages, groups and sharing your store link with friends.
Other options include Facebook Advertisements, Instagram Ads, Google Shopping and even platforms such as Snapchat, Pinterest, Twitter and LinkedIn.
You’ll need to test different ads, find out what’s working and remove ads that aren’t.
Method #2: Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a very easy to make money online, you don’t even need a website.
However, creating your own website, is one of the best ways to create passive income by recommending products and services.
You create the content once, and make money for many years to come. I can’t think of any other business model that pays money for life without risk or investment.
Getting started with affiliate marketing is as simple as 1.2.3.
- Buy a domain name and create a website
- Signup with an affiliate network
- Write reviews, how to guides and blog about products.
Step 1: Start A Website
Similar to dropshipping you need a website to be an efficient affiliate marketer.
You can get a domain name (i.e. .co.nz or .com) for free with most hosting providers on a yearly subscription.
I recommend using Bluehost to host your website, it costs $2.95 per month (USD).
Your website will be fully managed, secure and always online so it’s a tiny investment in your business.
Once setup, you’ll need to install WordPress and setup a theme, there’s plenty of free ones to choose from or you could buy a premium one too.
Step 2: Signup With Affiliate Network
There’s thousands of networks worldwide. They work with businesses looking to increase their sales. They’ll usually take a commission from the sales you send.
So you might send traffic to a product that gives you 50% commission, the network takes 10% and the vendor is left with 40%.
Most digital products (i.e. virtual, software etc) usually offer 50-90% commissions whereas physical products (i.e. clothing) is usually around 10-20% depending on the vendor.
Some of the best affiliate networks to checkout include Shareasale, CommissionJunction, Clickbank and Amazon Associates.
You should create your website before signing up or you’ll likely get rejected.
Payments are usually made monthly via Paypal or international bank transfer.
Step 3: Write Content
One of the beauties about affiliate marketing is that you can get started for free, if you’re willing to write the content yourself.
If not, you can find plenty of writers who charge $20-$30 per 1000 words on various forums and writing platforms such as Upwork, iWriter and Problogger.
You need to write about your affiliate product/s, services and provide value to your readers.
You can’t simply write about the features and throw in an affiliate link, you need to give readers insights they can’t get from the product page.
Do some research, write exceptional content and keep writing. You’ll need to bulk your website out with content and the rankings will come in time.
Don’t expect overnight success and don’t give up when you don’t make money.
Affiliate marketing is cheap and cheerful to start but does require commitment.
Method #3: Social Media Marketing (SMMA)
Business owners are usually great at what they do, whether that’s running a successful bar, the worlds best hair dresser or fixing your car, but they often have no idea about digital marketing.
I can’t think of a single business that wouldn’t want more leads, clients and sales.
That’s where you come in, you’ll offer to run simple social media advertisements for local businesses in your area.
We call this social media marketing or local lead generation.
It’s an easy way to make money using other peoples money.
You’ll setup small ads, such as this.
You’ll get your clients to pay for any clicks and in return ask for a monthly retainer. Usually this is 10-20% of their ad spend however some agencies charge up to 50%.
Getting started requires no money at all if you’re good at communicating you can pick up clients through walking into businesses.
If you want to show your strength then run a similar advertisement on Facebook offering a free trial for your own services.
Social media marketing is one of the easiest side hustles as you can work from anywhere and once you find a winning ad for your client, you’ll both be making money on autopilot.
Now you know how to make money online, the only thing holding you back is your own drive and motivation to make money on the internet.
