Waitangi
Bay of Islands New Zealand
Waitangi is within walking distance of Paihia and also offers accommodation, and it is here that the Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840, between the Maori and British. The Treaty House is now a museum and is part of the Waitangi Reserve. On the reserve is an impressive 37 metre canoe launched each Waitangi Day (February 6) and a Maori meeting house.
