The Hauraki Gulf is the marine gateway to Auckland and stretches between the Waitemata Harbour and the Coromandel Peninsula, its sheltered waters are studded with over 50 islands and islets. The Hauraki Gulf is the marine gateway to Auckland in that all major shipping plying to and from Auckland and the Waitemata Harbour passes through it. The relatively calm waters and heritage of islands make it a natural marine playground for the people of the region. Auckland the largest city in New Zealand has all the amenities that you would expect, from a casino through to museums, art galleries and entertainment centres. The two largest islands of the Hauraki Gulf are Great Barrier and Waiheke and are are connected to Auckland by regular ferry services. Waiheke Island, considered by many to be the most magical part of the Auckland experience, is only 35 minutes from Downtown Auckland and it's beautiful beaches and native forest reserves harmonise delightfully with the cafes, vineyards, olive groves and art studios. All this makes Waiheke Island a favorite place for romantic weddings and honeymoons. Great Barrier Island has a more natural rugged beauty and beautiful unspoiled beaches. It is one of the last great wilderness areas of the Auckland region with forest covered ranges, a maze of bays, islands and indented fiords and sweeping white sands and surf beaches, often backed by tidal creeks and wetlands. Some of the other islands are home to rare species of animals, birds, flora and fauna. These include the New Zealand native takahe (bird) and tuatara (reptile). As a result, a permit is required to land on them. Have we missed your business from our listings? Click here.
