WAIHEKE WINE
Some of New Zealand's best red wines come from Waiheke Island where the  ideal growing conditions of hot dry summers and stony soils combine with the skills of experienced vintners to produce world acclaimed vintages. Many of the wines are produced in limited quantities and can only be bought on Waiheke or in selected restaurants around the world.
Wine touring is now one of the island's major tourist attractions. The Waiheke Winegrowers' Association numbers 29 and the number will continue to rise as more vineyards are planted and come into production. Several of the vineyards are open to the public for sales, tasting or tours and the new Waiheke Winegrowers' Map provides the most up-to-date information on who, where and when.

Kennedy Point Vineyard Established in 1996 on the south western side of Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf, the vineyard is on 2.5 acres situated on steep north facing slopes on a warm protected site at Kennedy Point. Planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Viognier, our goal is to grow quality red wines that have ageing potential and can be enjoyed a few years after bottling.

Stonyridge Vineyard was established in 1982 by Stephen White after extensive searching for a site and maritime climate similar to that of Bordeaux. The ideal property was found on Waiheke Island, famous for its low summer rainfall, high sunshine hours and beautiful white sand beaches. The vineyard, overlooked by an olive grove, is nestled beside a 100 metre high rocky ride, called Stonyridge on poor but free draining soil, just one kilometre from the sea. Our aim is to make the highest quality Cabernet blend wine in New Zealand and we firmly believe that it is possible to produce some of the finest wines on earth, in New Zealand.

Goldwater Estate is a small premium winegrower with an international reputation for the production of outstanding wines. Kim and Jeanette Goldwater pioneered winegrowing on Waiheke Island with the planting of the island's first vinifera vineyard in 1978. They realised that the unique free draining soils, the warm dry summer, and the maritime influence would combine to give this magic island ideal fine winegrowing conditions.
The Goldwater Estate's Waiheke Island's vineyard extends over 30 acres of undulating hillside overlooking Putiki Bay; 20 acres are planted in the classical red Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc and 10 acres in Chardonnay.

Miro Vineyard was established in 1993 on a spectacularly steep hill in the Onetangi Basin of Waiheke Island. The site was chosen because of its 100% north facing slopes which give maximum exposure of every vine to the sun, and because of the outstanding "Bordeaux" qualities of the handful of existing Waiheke Island wines. The vineyard is managed as part of the first New Zealand trial of Sustainable Viticulture techniques, a system which produces high quality wines with the minimum impacts on the farming environment and the environment surrounding the vineyard.
