About a three
and a half hour drive to
the north of Auckland is the beautiful Bay of Islands. The region has the
finest maritime park in New Zealand with the 144 Islands and an abundance
of marine life, including the big marlin, whales, penguins, dolphins,
gannets and many other species. Russell is the original The Bay with its
pristine natural environment is the gathering place in the South Pacific
for overseas sailing yachts on world cruises, international sport
fishermen, golfers and marine enthusiasts. There are also flights from

Hamilton
City is a couple of hours south of Auckland and straddles the banks of the
Waikato River. It is a major service centre for the fertile agricultural
region of the Waikato. The Waikato River is the most significant
geographic, historical and scenic feature of the central Waikato and many
of the Hamilton Region's more unusual and interesting features are set
along its banks. Some of the attractions are the Hamilton Gardens, a
paddle boat that cruises on the river and the Waikato Museum
of Art & History.

you will notice the unmistakable smell of sulphur in the air. You will see clouds of steam
magically appear around the city giving it an incredible 'other worldly' feel. Rotorua’s 4 major
thermal areas are Whakarewarewa, Waimangu, Waiotapu and Hell’s Gate. The
village of Whakarewarewa is one of Rotorua’s most active thermal areas.
That is where you’ll find the lively Pohutu geyser, which erupts about 20
times a day and can spout up to 100 feet. Other attractions at "Whaka"
include hot mud pools, hot springs, and a Maori pa.

fishing. The lake provides opportunities for waterskiing, jetskiing,

steam and geysers north of the town at Wairakei Park and Orakei Korako.
The Huka Falls and the Aratiatia Rapids are north of the town, while to
the south are the mountains of the volcanic plateau and the skifields of
Mount Ruapehu.
