Kaiwaka
Northland New Zealand
Kaiwaka is a small township on State Highway One it is an easy 1½ hours
north from Auckland or 45 minutes south from Whangarei, and is only a
short distance east to Mangawai or west to the Kaipara Harbour (quick
access to water activities/fishing, boating). Famous for the Kaiwaka
Lights which light the buildings at night. In 1997 their church was
adorned with "angel" lights and since then many other businesses in the
town have followed suit. Kaiwaka has a great choice of cafes and
speciality shops. A visit to the information centre is a must, and a
great cup of coffee can be found at the Kauri Cafe next door. On
Saturdays the Kaiwaka Green Market takes place, here you will find
organic foods, clothing, herbal remedies, cosmetics and gift items.
Another stop is the Apple Basket Patchwork and Garden Centre.
